New Year, New Fortunes for HeadRed FC
We’ll be the first to admit that 2007 wasn’t the greatest year in the history of HeadRed FC, but it seems that the New Year has started as it means to go on. Since the turn of the year our two fixtures have seen 10 goals scored and 4 points picked up from a possible 6 available, and it could have been even better for the mighty reds!
On the 6th January the team travelled to lowly Firefighters and recorded a season-best 7-2 victory. The game also saw two hat-tricks scored, with 4 goals going to on-fire striker Bowns and a further 3 to the reinstated Gilmour.
The following week HeadRed FC entertained fellow mid-table opponents Pro Santos Blues and for the most part it was very much a case of history repeating itself. The reds raced into a commanding 3-1 lead, again with both Bowns (2) and Gilmour on the scoresheet. However, disaster struck 5 minutes from time as Pro Santos hit back with an unlikely double to level the game at 3-3. Whilst the result was disappointing the overall performance was encouraging and 1 win and 1 draw from 2 games is a very positive record.
With the team seemingly scoring for fun at the moment and results improving it seems that the New Year has finally seen the team turn the corner. Hopefully this will be the start of a long unbeaten run and a concerted push up the table. Up the reds!
